Sizing is a critical element in designing an EHX system. Optimal sizing – not
too much, nor too little – depends on a good thermal conductivity test
at the site.
Thermal Conductivity Testing
Too large and the EHX is more costly than it needs to be; too
small and it will be overstressed and will not deliver maximum
energy savings. To determine the size of the required EHX for
a building, we evaluate the thermal conductivity of the soil
– the soil's ability to absorb or reject heat from/to a ground
loop housed inside a borehole drilled into the earth.
